Just outside Santiago, ride quiet foothill trails, meet local horsemen, and enjoy a relaxed Chilean picnic in nature

After picking you up, a short drive takes us to a private ranch in the foothills of the Andes, where your horse will be ready for the ride.

Before heading out, your guide will introduce you to the basics of horseback riding so you can feel safe and comfortable, even if it’s your first time on a horse.

We then spend about two hours riding along quiet foothill trails, surrounded by open landscapes, native vegetation, and wide views of the Andes in a peaceful setting far from the noise of the city.

This small-group experience is limited to just 6 travelers, creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that feels comfortable whether you’re traveling solo or with others.

Along the way, your guide will share stories about the landscape, the horses, and the rural traditions that are still part of everyday life in the Chilean countryside.

Our horses are calm, well-trained, and carefully cared for, making the ride enjoyable for both beginners and more experienced riders. As the ride unfolds, many travelers are often surprised by the quiet sense of connection that naturally develops with the horse.

To finish, we share a relaxed picnic with Chilean wine, local cheeses, and regional products, a moment to unwind, enjoy the landscape, and share good conversation in a relaxed setting before returning to Santiago.

A peaceful and authentic way to experience the Andes foothills and Chilean countryside just outside the city.

👥 Group size

This is a small-group experience with a maximum of 6 participants. A minimum of 3 participants is required to operate. If the minimum is not reached, you may choose to reschedule, upgrade to a private experience, or receive a full refund.

At Ecordua, we deeply care about the well-being of our horses, before, during, and after every experience.

We work with a local family of arrieros from central Chile who have spent over 35 years caring for horses in the mountains. For them, horses are part of their life.

Each horse is known individually and cared for with attention and respect. They receive regular veterinary care, including deworming, dental check-ups, and proper hoof maintenance. We also use well-fitted, high-quality saddles and equipment to ensure their comfort and prevent injuries.

We operate with a responsible approach: each horse participates in only one ride per day, allowing proper rest and recovery. When not working, they graze freely in the hills or are fed with appropriate forage, and rest in sheltered stables.

For their well-being and safety, we also respect a maximum rider weight of 95 kg (210 lb).

During the experience, a member of the family, Víctor, Tomás, or Victoria, always joins as a second guide, supporting both guests and horses throughout the ride.

Choosing this experience is also a conscious way to connect with nature and the animals that are part of it.

What should I wear or bring?

You don’t need any special equipment. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes, long pants, and closed-toe shoes.

Depending on the season, you may also want to bring a warm extra layer.

We also suggest bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, and water (1 to 1.5 liters, ideally in a reusable bottle).

Before your experience, we’ll send you a pre-tour preparation guide with more details.

Do I need previous horseback riding experience?

No experience is required. Before the ride, your guide will give a short introduction so you feel safe and comfortable on the horse. Also, our horses are calm, well-trained, and used to carrying riders with little or no experience.

Can we gallop during the ride?
No. Even if you have previous riding experience, the trails we follow are narrow and in some sections steep, which makes a faster pace neither safe nor appropriate.

In addition, this is a natural environment where other animals may cross the trail, which can sometimes surprise the horses. For this reason, we keep a calm and controlled pace throughout the ride.

We also prioritize the well-being of our horses, avoiding unnecessary risks and ensuring a safe experience for both guests and animals.

Even without galloping, most guests find this to be a very special and memorable experience.

Can children participate?

To ensure greater safety and comfort, tours with children must be booked as private experiences. You can see more details here.

What happens if the minimum number of participants is not reached?

We will notify you the day before, and you can choose to reschedule, join another tour, pay the difference to have a private tour, or receive a full refund.

What is the cancellation policy?

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance to receive a full refund.
