Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring?
Comfortable trekking clothes (quick-dry, puffy jacket, waterproof windbreaker – goretex or similar), beanie, bandana, and gloves), waterproof hiking shoes or trail running shoes, sun protection (sunglasses with straps, hat, and sunscreen), water bottle (the water is drinkable in most streams, so you can refill it along the way), backpack (20-30 liters), trekking poles (available for rent in Puerto Natales), 20-30 lt backpack with waterproof cover (we also use a dry bag or plastic thick trash bag to put everything inside). We also recommend bringing an extra pair of shoes and socks for the return trip.
What is the difficulty level of the hike?
The hike is intermediate, with a total distance of 22 km (13.6 miles) and a moderate elevation gain of 600 meters (2000 ft). Experience with long hikes is recommended, although we can do just a segment of it and personalize the hike to your experience.
How long does the hike take?
The hike takes approximately 9 hours, including breaks for rest and lunch. The total tour duration is 15 hours from Puerto Natales.
Why are the park entrance and catamaran tickets not included in the tour?
We don’t include the park entrance fee because the price varies based on nationality and age. Additionally, the basic entrance ticket is valid for 3 days, so we think it’s more convenient for you to manage it yourself, especially if you plan to visit the park on other days besides our tour. The catamaran ticket is also not included due to various factors, particularly the unpredictable weather in Patagonia. There’s a chance the catamaran might not operate, and in that case, your guide will make the best decision to ensure you still enjoy the planned tour.
Can children or older adults join the tour?
Yes, we can adapt the route and hiking distances for families with children or older adults.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
If you have dietary restrictions, please let us know in the registration form we will send once you book. We will tailor the picnic to your needs.
What happens if the weather is unfavorable?
The weather in Patagonia is unpredictable. In case of extreme conditions, we will adapt the route or reschedule the tour, depending on safety and feasibility.
Will there be bathrooms available during the hike?
Yes, there are bathrooms available at Paine Grande Refuge and at Italiano Campsite. If you need to go in areas without facilities, you’ll need to do so following “Leave No Trace” principles.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can cancel up to 24 hours before for a full refund. In case of extreme weather or force majeure, we will offer to reschedule, choose a different tour, or provide a full refund.
