Climbing in Chile – Las Chilcas day tour
Las Chilcas was one of the first climbing areas close to Santiago. The type of rock is a conglomerate of medium quality, that means that small holds could fall but the older routes there are almost clean. There are quite long routes average 20m with mostly overhangs with pockets and slopers. It has the entire range of grades but it is really good for people climbing 5.12 – 5.13.
The perfect season for Las Chilcas is after the summer, from May to September when the conditions are quite good especially on cold and “rainy” days. Otherwise climbing there on summer is not recommended and there are other areas like Cajón del Maipo or El Arrayán.
